ONI POWER

Oni power: learn the meter before spending it

The Oni Gauntlet is the central supernatural tool. Use it with a clear purpose instead of triggering power without an opening.

01What is confirmed

Capcom describes the Oni Gauntlet as granting power beyond human limits, absorbing Genma souls and converting them into power for Musashi.

02A deliberate-use checklist

Before any Oni-powered action, name its job: damage, spacing, survival or recovery. If you cannot name it, wait for a clearer opening.

  • Learn where the meter is shown.
  • Observe an activation in a safe encounter.
  • Do not spend a full resource only because it is available.

03Keep terms clear

Promotional and in-game terms can vary by language. Use visual meters and your own menu descriptions rather than assuming two translations are identical.

04What Trailer 6 actually shows

PlayStation’s upload of “The Challenges That Await” (embedded below) introduces the Genma siblings Ifuu and Burai, recaps bosses already named, and then lets Musashi drop the human act. Capcom’s own caption calls that drop Oni Awakening. It is not Issen. It is not Blazing State. It is a transformation beat the demo does not give you. If a creator is selling “Oni form in the free file”, they are clipping the trailer. Onimusha: Way of the Sword — 6th Trailer: The Challenges That Await The trailer is a promise of scale, not a button map. We do not yet have an official input, a meter colour, or a duration. What we have is director language from earlier in 2026: Musashi can awaken Oni powers to pull off superhuman feats, and the full-game version of that line is this form. Use the video as a look, then go back to the combat system for the verbs you can actually practise.

05Eye, Arm, Leg — the three keys

A Famitsu interview at Summer Game Fest 2026 had director Satoru Nihei split awakening into tools the demo only hints at. Eye Awakening (目覚醒) reveals hidden Genma; killing them opens a blocked path — closer to exploration than to a damage steroid. Arm Awakening (腕覚醒) breaks objects and barricades that a normal cut will not. Leg Awakening (脚覚醒) is the third key in that same family. None of these are the Trailer 6 silhouette. They are why a “missing door” in the campaign is often an ability you have not earned, not a broken spawn. That structure should feel familiar if you have played a modern Capcom action game with gated traversal. It is not an open world. Nihei has said so repeatedly. It is a linear spine with keys. The Kyoto map is where those keys will sit after 4 September; until then, treat the three names as a spoiler-light legend, not as a route.

06How this sits next to Issen and Blazing State

Issen is still an attack on the impact frame. Blazing State is still the heated sword mode previewers described from the demo. Oni Awakening is the moment the gauntlet stops being a polite tool and becomes a second body. Producer Kadowaki’s message in the same PlayStation.Blog piece was to play the demo first; the demo teaches the human kit. The Oni kit is the reason the full game is not “the demo for twenty hours”. If you came here from Trailer 6 looking for a counter to Ifuu and Burai, start on their boss page and on Issen. Awakening will not be the only answer. Capcom has spent six years making the sword feel like the answer.
