Swordplay that rewards a read
Director Satoru Nihei has said this is not a Soulslike. Combat is blade-on-blade: you watch the cut, choose a defensive tool, then spend the opening. Issen is the series signature and still the tightest window in the kit. Combat system One-handed and two-handed attacks, Blade Barrage, Blade Lock, Blazing State, Oni Armaments, and why “playing dirty” with carts and tatami is official policy. Read the guide Controls (Basic vs Active) PlayStation, Xbox and default mouse-and-keyboard maps for both control types — plus which layout to pick if you learned on older action games. Read the guide Issen, Chain Issen, Break Issen Attack on the frame the hit would land. Chain it through a mob in slow motion. Break Issen on a broken posture bar and choose head or chest. Read the guide Oni Awakening Trailer 6’s Oni form, plus the Eye / Arm / Leg keys Nihei named for exploration. Not in the demo. Read the guide Action vs Story 剣戟 versus 活劇. Why the demo feels easy, and what Kadowaki promised for later bosses. Read the guide
Guides for the questions people actually ask
Search traffic before a Capcom action launch clusters around how to play, how to get resources, and how to finish the thing in front of you. These pages are written for that queue. How to play Onimusha: Way of the Sword A first-hour loop: stance, souls, when to stop attacking, and why the default Action difficulty is a teacher rather than a wall. Read the guide How to absorb souls Yellow heals, red upgrades, blue fuels Oni Armaments — and you can walk while absorbing, which the PS2 games never allowed.
