01Who he is
Capcom’s own Spotlight copy: after carving into the mortal realm, this winged warrior from the depths of hell locks blades with Miyamoto Musashi. Coverage notes he appears to be an original creation rather than a folklore transplant like Shuten Doji. The Japanese name 怒髪天 reads as fury standing the hair on end — tone, not a Wikipedia page. Nihei talks, then the fight. Watch the feet and the wings, not the UI. There is no public health bar, no phase graphic, no “press Issen here” overlay that Capcom signed.
02What the footage actually does
From that reel and the June recaps: he strikes quickly, makes space with kicks, can counter, and dodges on a short timer. A later phase ignites the blade for projectiles and extra damage. That is a deflect problem as much as a parry problem — see parry and deflect. It is also why Blade Barrage language from the Ganryu fight may not be the right first tool; a winged opponent who leaves the floor is a different read. He is not in the Kiyomizu-dera demo and not in the Oni Refuge patch. Anyone posting a “Dohatsu-ten no-hit in the demo” is clipping Spotlight. Campaign placement is unlisted. Put him on the bosses hub as a trailer name, not as a night-one expectation.
03How to practise for him anyway
Projectile returns are Deflect. Fast kick-ins are the same muscle as Ganryu’s opener if you already fight on Action. Issen is still an attack on the impact frame, not a panic button when wings appear. If you only have the demo, spend the extra hour on Daidara for giant-body timing and keep a human duel warm on Ganryu. Those are the two legal spars.
