DEMO BOSS

How to beat Daidara

The Oni Refuge boss route, clear conditions and training checklist.

01Where Daidara sits in the demo

You cannot fight Daidara until the demo is updated and you have finished the Ganryu duel. The game then routes you through the Oni Refuge instead of dumping you at the title screen. If your copy still ends on the temple stage, update it. The demo download page lists every storefront; the walkthrough covers the path through the Refuge itself. Daidara is a size check. Ganryu taught human timing. This fight teaches you to hold the camera on a wide swing and to use the arena as a weapon — the same “play dirty” rule the combat designers already endorsed with carts and tatami in Kiyomizu-dera.

02The club, the charge, the grab

Basic club string. Three overhead or lateral swings. Perfect-parrying the whole string, especially the last hit, leaves him staggered. Eating the first swing is a knockdown and a lost turn. If you are still learning parry, hold a long guard through the first two and look for the hitch before the closer — that hitch is your deflect or Issen beat. Phase-two four-hit. Same idea with a pause between the third and fourth. Greedy players swing into the pause and eat the delayed closer. Count to four out loud if you have to. Break Issen becomes available if you empty his stamina bar; on a boss it will not kill, but it lets you pick a body part for extra damage or extra red souls, the same rule as the Issen page. Charge. He winds up and runs. Stand near a wall, dodge as he arrives, and let him hit architecture. The stagger is large. This is the demo’s clearest lesson in environmental play and it will matter again when the Kyoto locations open up after launch — Mount Oe and Dokyo’s lab are not empty boxes. Grab. Like Ganryu, but greedier: a successful grab steals souls and cuts health, stamina and the Oni gauge together. Contextual counter, not a parry. If the tell looks like a snatch, press the interact button. Holding yellow souls “for later” is how this grab ruins a clean run; absorb when he is recovering from a wall slam. Onimusha: Way of the Sword — Byakue special challenge, no damage The video in the middle of this page is a no-damage Byakue clear, not Daidara himself — public dedicated Daidara guides are still thin, and Byakue is the fight this boss actually unlocks. Use it as a preview of the special challenge’s pace after you have Daidara down. The same Issen discipline applies; the arena and tells change.

03Unlocking Byakue, The Hundred Defilements

Two documented routes open the Special Challenge. Beat Daidara twice, or land ten Issen during the demo (the on-screen Issen tally sits on the left and turns gold at ten). Comments on public clears confirm both. Byakue was already named in Summer Game Fest preview coverage alongside Dohatsu-ten; the demo is giving you a slice of a boss you will meet properly in the campaign. You do not need Byakue for Kubi Akari. If you are only here for the completion checklist, Daidara is the last required fight. If you are here to be ready for launch-week combat, do the challenge once. Ten Issen is also good Issen homework — farm them on Refuge fodder before the boss door if the tally is still short.

FAQFrequently asked questions

I beat Ganryu and the demo ended. Where is Daidara?

Update the demo. The August 2026 patch continues into the Oni Refuge after the temple duel. The June file stopped at Ganryu.

Does Daidara appear in the full game?

CAPCOM has not published a full boss list. Demo bosses in this series are usually campaign fights or close variants. Expect to see the club again or a related Genma.

How do I unlock Byakue?

Defeat Daidara twice, or perform ten Issen in a demo run until the counter turns gold.

Can I parry the grab?

No. Use the contextual counter. A parry attempt is how the grab steals your souls.
